Blog Prompt #4 – Scene Settings

Blog Prompt #4 – Scene Settings The fourth blog prompt is about the settings where our characters find themselves. Consider the setting. I’ve written a post touching on this before where I find that settings/locations often shape a story. So tell me, how do you choose your settings – be it planet, ship, ship class, heck Trek era even? How does the setting shape your story? What world building lengths do you seek as a writer / as a reader? Do you like descriptions and to paint the scene or do you leave it to the imagination of the reader. However you choose to interpret this prompt, have at it. We’ve got great responses to this prompt! Blog Prompt #3 – Crossovers

Blog Prompt #3 – Crossovers Courtesy of Templar Sora – My blog idea is to try and maybe see just how far out there some of us have gone, are considering going, or wish we could go in the pursuit of IDIC in our fanfics. So, of those who are doing it, what other shows/media (or even star trek eras) are people pulling into their fanfics as crossovers? What crossovers do some people wish we could see, or want to try and write themselves. How do you feel about crossovers in star trek in general? We have seen some great responses to this prompt! From Templar Sora himself, Time And Relative Diversity in Infinite Combinations FalseBill’s  The Start trekfan’s Crossover Madness jespah’s IDIC and...

Blog Prompt #2 – What are the Best kinds of Reviews?

Blog Prompt #2 – What are the Best kinds of Reviews? Again, using the Boldly Reading discussion thread, it got me thinking about the hope of generating more reviews. So here’s your short and simple blog prompt: what do you like to see in a review of your work? what do you comment upon yourself in a review? has a received view changed your opinion on a story you wrote or were writing? and finally, has a review sold or warned you off another author’s story? We’ve already seen some great responses to this prompt! Templar Sora’s Critical! Super Effective!! FalseBill’s The Start jespah’s Reviews – a Love/Hate Affair

Boldly Reading Book Club #1 – Paving Stones Made From Good Intentions

Boldly Reading Book Club #1 – Paving Stones Made From Good Intentions Welcome to our very first Book Club Discussion! Here’s hoping to it being the first of many. Our first Boldly Reading Book Club Choice is jespah’s Paving Stones Made From Good Intentions a K rated story though possibly K+ given some of the darker themes within. The choice for the story was mine, and chosen before jespah’s recent promotion to modly powers, because of jespah’s enthusiasm and participation at all levels on Ad Astra. Additionally, before all of that, jespah was willing to be our guinea pig for this little enterprise. The story itself though is one I thought would provide a lot of delicious little commentary for our book club and offer a number of discussion points...

Blog Prompt #1 – What Do You Like to Read? Given the thoughts being bounced about in the Book Club idea Boldly Reading my prompt is a simple: what do you like to read? A Somewhat Big Bang

A Somewhat Big Bang Ad Astra has been showcasing quality Star Trek fan fiction since early 2009. During that time, the site has grown, and it currently is home to over 100 authors with at least one story of any length published on the Archives. The forums are the social space for the site, with a somewhat different number of members as there are separate log ins. The blogging community contains, as of this writing, a total of fourteen blogs. We’ve been busy! And now we’re about to get even busier. For fan fiction authors, there is no expectation of monetary compensation. Therefore, why do we do it? We do it for love. And we do it for reviews. In order to encourage considerably more in-depth reviewing and a give and take discussion between the writer...
